I have been trying to work out what plants to grow up my pergola. I already have some hops which i want to grow but am thinking of some kind of clematis. I really love the c. flammula but i have read that its a bit tender. Can anyone help on this? is there anything i could do which would possibly protect it. where its going it gets the sun from about mid day onwards but generally the garden is a nw type position i think.

As far as I can find out, there is no mention of C.flammula being tender, certainly it has survived here and we are a lot colder than Soliull! It is a short lived species though, say about 10 years and hard to propagate except from seed which is not always set in Britain.
