I would love a montana in white. But I have also seen the early sensation one in white and this is evergreen. Is it so free flowering as the montana?
And what does montana look like for the rest of the year?

Hi daisybelle, my mother in law has an evergreen clematis, not sure what sort it is but I do know that is very slow growing and when it does flower they are well spaced out and small with dense foliage all year. Sorry I couldn`t be more help with that. :(

As regards the montana`s mine has a regular pattern.

Late Feb/early March the leaf buds appear
Late March the flower buds appear
    Late April the flowers open
End of May/early June the flowers drop/seedpods open
August/September second flowering in right cond`
    Early/mid December leaves drop

After the seedpods have finished the plant is left with a dense covering of foliage right up to,in the case of my plant, mid December.

During the winter the plant can look tatty and really sorry for itself but as I said come late Feb the leaf buds appear and it is covered in no time.

This is what mine looks like at the moment, covered in seed spores.

Daisybelle, I bought an evergreen clematis in B&Q today-It's called Avalanche and should have white flowers in spring only so not as freeflowering as montana but at least you get some colour all year..
