which compost to use to plant herbs?

    Hi

    Is multipurpose compost ok to use to plant herbs in? If so, do i need peat free or peat?

    yes any compost will do, It's up to you whether you use peat or not, the plants wont be at all fussy.

    As Lad says it is up to you.. Herbs are not that fussy.. I personally like Westlands Peat free Multi-purpose with added John Innes I can get it 2x 60ltr bags for £11 at my local GC... :WINK1: :D You will find though everyone has a personal preference for composts... :D

    There was thread on here recently about the best compost and many thought the Wickes multi-purpose was the best and cheapest. So I gave it a try and would recommend it. It's still on offer, 4 bags (75 L each) for £13. That would do just fine for herbs. I take it you are planting in containers?

    Thanks for the replies.

    I have made a herb bed 5ft by 1ft out of old railway sleepers.
