I've not used Homebase stuff, I should imagine its as good as any, you will probably need a lot though and using multipurpose will be exepensive - have you worked out how much you need? You might get a better deal looking in your local free ads or yellow pages for farmers/top soil sellers or spent mushroom compost suppliers.

Yeah, it can be expensive to fill up raised beds with compost, and the quality of the compost varies not just by brand but by region as well. That is what a Wich? trial proved last spring. I was shocked, they had different germination/growth rate in different part of the country within the same brand, as the companies use local recycled material to make compost, so there isnt a standard even within a brand.

all depends how big your raised bed is. Bagged multi purpose compost isnt great on its own much better mixed with good quality topsoil 60/40 or even 70/30 in favour of the topsoil. Type topsoil calculator into google and youll find a useful tool to work out how much you need. If you shop around you can get it for less than 20 pound a tonne if your in lancashire i can recomend a supplier

I've used Homebase compost before and have been very happy with the results but like the guy above, the cost will be v-high for such a large amount. A trade supplier would be your best bet.

I used homebase stuff last year and got very mixed results from it; i also found a local supplier for compost so will be using them from now on - cheaper, free delivery and the compost is brilliant!
