I'm in the process of trying to rejuvenate my lawn.
Usually cut at a height of 40mm. Got it down to 30mm @ the moment and on Friday or saturday will be getting it down to 20mm
Then will be going over it with a electric lawn rake :snork:
Can anyone recommend a good all round grass seed?
Read that Canada green has good reviews?
    Regards Sean

I use Evergreen general purpose, I find it a good quality seed. :)

I was going to do the same this week - electric rake , spike the bad bits with a fork , reseed and top dress with a fine soil and sharp sand mix.
Now grass seed germination is a major bug with me , I have tried many types and they all seem to germinate at random ! Results of a little test I completed below ,Miracle grow grass seed from Wilkos Vs another well known brand , after 14 days. The MG is on the right

When I sow grass seed (on the prepared lawn seedbed, I don't sow mine in seed trays and then prick it out like you :heehee:) I water it daily. Most things I have seen written advocate letting nature take its course, unless the weather remains dry. I like to get it to hurry up, and all germinate at once, and give the birds less time to help themsevles.

I also buy my grass seed online from a "Merchant" in the hope that that gives me fresher seed - some of the seed in the Sheds could have been there a long time, although I suppose their turnover is high ... a best before date would help with their stock rotation

Rather less soil in your tray on the left perhaps? (might just be the way the photo looks)

Ask Which? to do a comparison? if the differences is that great some sellers are getting away with selling talcum powder or somesuch ...

No I am not planning to prick out at one blade a time , or lay a lawn in 1000 mini turf rolls :snork: It was a test on seed type germination and to make some mini patching turfs , there is the same depth of soil in each tray - plus the third tray which I had just dropped on the floor :gaah:
Just been into Wilkos they have 2 big sacks of grass seed. You can measure your own out at about £3 a KG and without Rye grass at £5.50 a KG . Miracle Grow grass seed is about £14 a KG . You pays your money, you takes your choice !

Well just been to wilko's and brought 2.5kg of the fine non rye grass mixture.
I'll just keep it well watered and take my chance :)
It's got to look better than it does now!

I I bought "fine lawn" grass seed from http://www.bostonseeds.com/products/1/Grass-Seed/ last Autumn - it has made a lovely looking lawn this Summer :)

Their Economy Grass Seed is £2.90 / kg (10kg pricing), and their Quality Fine Lawn Seed (which is what I sowed) is £4.30 (10kg pricing, smaller & larger packs available)

£4.16 delivery is a bit of a bind if you only want a few quids worth of grass seed ... although they also do fertilizers, and spreaders (if you need one)

All joking apart, and I keep meaning to do this myself, having a few seed trays of lawn-turf is handy to replace a "patch", mid season, for any reason.

Well gave the lawn a feed with wilkos soluble lawn feed this morning and overseeded when I got in from work.
I might need to get some more yet. Managed to cover 85m2 with 2.15kg but skimped towards the end.

Yep brought 3kg all together. Still got abit left for the patches. When I got the seed the other day it was a new bag, so this might have aided germination time!
