I use a lot of flower food and up to now have always bought the sachets in bulk from Amazon or eBay. I was wondering about trying the liquid does anyone know if it is any better or indeed cheaper? I suspect not! thanks

My Nan used to do flower arranging (she went to evening classes for it at one point) and she always used flat lemonade in flower water - she bought the cheapest she could find (non-diet) and left the lid loose to let the bubbles out. Apparently it's the sugar plus citric acid that does the job. I don't bother putting anything in myself unless it's bought flowers that come with a little sachet of food.

The sachets are just sugar and something acid and/or bleach. The sugar helps blooms open (but promotes bacteria) and the acid helps water stay low in bacteria. From this, the lemonade sounds reasonable or a bit of sugar and squeeze of lemon?

I've never tried Lemon but it sounds reasonable as @AuntyRach says. I don't buy cut flowers but when I pick my own I just dissolve demerara sugar in hot water, just dip the cut stems in that and put to one side before adding rain water and then arranging the flowers in that. It seems to work well for me.
