... that can be grown in containers?

I've decided to start my own business and will require a supply of potatoes for baking. I had some lovely salad potatoes last year. However, I've never attempted to grow spuds suitable for baking in a container.

    Which are your favourites?

Your gonna need quite a few containers!

:heehee: Any of the spuds named will make good jackets.

Maris Piper, King Edward, Estima, Desiree.

    Cheers, Tony.

Here you go John, have a look through here Baked potatoes 69 varieties to look through there.

Cara is a popular maincrop variety noted as a good baker and is also blight resistant too. I've not grown it myself.

I grow King Edwards as maincrop and although the yield is good the overall size is smaller than other varieties so prob not suitable for a "Jacket potato" business.

    Steve...:)

I forgot all about JBA! That's where I got my seed potatoes from last year. Time for some research.

I use Maris Piper, Estima & Désirée for jacket spuds, don't like King Edwards (for anything - maybe it was how my mother cooked them that put me off them for life?), and also Kestrels, so that's everything I normally grow apart from Charlotte.

Who cooks which varieties in the oven, microwave, or slow cooker and what difference it makes might be interesting.

Jacket spuds are maincrop and trying to grow maincrop in containers is not going to be easy. You will get a few but they will need lots of watering and for a long time i.e. until mid August probably. (Usually it's early spuds aka new potatoes grown in containers). You really need to be growing them in the ground to get a decent crop.
