    Hi,
I think this is a Phormium, can anyone confirm and id the variety please? I'd like to know because the colouring is not my favourite but it's doing well and the shape is pleasant. I have inherited it.

The plant is about waist high at tallest tip point, the growing point a bit over knee height. It has a narrow, yellow stripe through the leaves.

It's growing in full sun so I think the pale green colour is what it should have. Photos:

General, leave from backside, general with Aquilegia, leaf front side.

    Thanks very much!

Could be one of the cookianum hybrids, they don't get as big as tenax....so start a google search there:)

      Thanks @flounder!

I haven't found a perfect match yet, but close ones. Since the plant seems to be doing well, I'll leave it in and see what it turns out to be. :)

It looks a bit like a juvenile cordyline australis, as I would have thought a phormium would have started putting up multiple stems by that size?

I thought that too @flounder, the stripe in the middle is a thick midrib and the brown leaf tips look suspiciously like a Cordyline. Most variegated Phormiums have varied colour patterns on each leaf @Selleri and the leaves are not identical.

Thanks all, now I agree with everybody on everything! Clearly I'm easy to lead :heehee:

The plant looks older than just one winter, I'm surprised it survived the bad one before last one.

I have never grown either Phormium or Cordyline so don't know how they feel, soft, thick, sharp... I'll check tomorrow if it shows any sign of stem(s).

Phormiums have fan shaped groups of leaves at the base of the plant rather than stems @Selleri. Your plant does look healthy. You could remove the lower leaves with brown tips to tidy it up and maybe relocate the other plants away from the base.

Reporting back- I think the base looks more of trunk than clump forming, or similar to my Dracaena houseplant. No pups that I can see, but there could be some on the other side I can't reach.

And yes, a gentle final touch or two may be required for this planting area  (we are just moving in now)

That helps @Selleri, it's a Cordyline! They always grow better in the ground so yours should do well :).
