Hebes are good for bees and so is lavender but what are the conditions like where your back fence is? Full sun, part shade?

Maybe try training Common Summer Jasmin on to your fence. Flowers profusely in spring/summer, giving off a great sweat smelling scent in the evening. Best planted South facing and can do well in partial shade. My one was planted about 8 years ago, in a North East facing spot against the back of the house. It's now about 8 meters in height, spreading by at least the same, wrapping around the East corner of the house.

Love opening the back french doors in summer and letting the sweat scent fill our living room.

        Brilliant.

        Also great for attracting bees!!!

I think a combination of both sweat and "sweet", if the sun ever bothers to show its face... :oopss:
