I am hoping to plant a 20 metre by 100 metre swathe of trees to surround my Garden plot later this year.
I am in a very windy exposed position with quite wet,but not flooded soil in winter.
What relatively quick growing trees would you recommend ?
I have planted a few Silver Birch with great success in the past.

    Thanks.

    Hi vegmandan,

Silver birches are fine and quite tolerant of high wind due to their flexible nature. I'd shy away from using willows, alders and poplar as they're brittle and have a potentially high risk of failure due to wind damage.

Do you know what causes the wet conditions in your garden? If you have a heavy clay soil you might wish to consider adding drainage as this will improve the chances of trees surviving waterlogged conditions, otherwise you may find that your trees will be blighted with ill health caused by lack of aeration and a high toxic bacteria content in the water.

Other than that I recommend leylandii, hawthorn, blackthorn, field maple and holly as your regular 'hedge trees' although these will need to be properly maintained in order to keep their height, shape and appearance.
