I can remember seeing one regularly as a kid living in a small village in the New Forest Kath.. It truly was a sight to behold.. It was the only one in this herd near us.. Used to be friends with the local forestry keepers children & we were privy to see allot things others do not get to see... I have no idea if it was well known at the time but we kids thought it the greatest secret to have & used to look out for it..!! Ah those were the days Kath... :old:

Sounds idyllic Marley. How lovely to live in the New Forest and see nature on your doorstep. It must have been magical for you as children :)

I grew up in the countryside but was never fortunate enough to see white deer. Lovely memories for you.

:thmb: I do have to say Kath I think I was priveleged or spoilt.. I Don't know which, but the wildlife I saw everyday, we are lucky if we catch the merest glimpse of nowadays..... It certainly was an idealyc childhood as far as I am concerned.. Through Junior school when we read "Children of the New Forest" I felt an affinity.. There were cottages & houses & the forest like that around me so it was easy to get lost in your imagination...:):D

I find it interesting that there are pockets of them around, wondering what in those areas effect the making of white deer. We just have the regular fawn color ones here.

Same here Redstar, the rest of the herds all around are regular colours & markings.. Or is it some kind of gene failure with these particular ones.? Intriguing..
