I have a whitebeam planted in 1989. It is close to a terrace, and 4m from my house and from my neighbour's. She has a Laurel (cherry), also 4m from her house. The neighbour has made an insurance claim due to subsidence. The insurer has found pomoideae roots and requested me to fell my tree.
I have no damage to my brick terrace or my house.
Could the subsidence be caused by my whitebeam roots?
If so is there an alternative actíon?

    Probably.
Probably not; you could employ your own expert to look at the situation and take their advice, but the insurance company would take a lot of persuading to change their position.
I'd save my money and take it out; might be an idea for the neighbour to get rid of the cherry laurel.
