    Hi All

Just found out they are widening the road not far from where I live and they will be felling some established trees , all of this is still at the planning stage but if it goes ahead they will start asap.

I have noticed over the past 5 days that the pair of Ravens that are residents to the area and have been since I have lived here over 7 years now have started to nest in one of the trees that may be felled or the tress very close by to the tree they have chosen to nest in .

As we all know if sitting on eggs or have chicks it will be a disaster , so who do I contact to try and stop this building work or delay until the Ravens chicks are fledged.

In harsh weather I have always put out some dog food for them and within minutes are sitting on the roof of the house waiting for me to go in , so I think someone has to fight there corner for them.

    Any advice/guidance appreciated

It's my (possibly incorrect) understanding that its against the law to cut down trees during the nesting season, except when they (the trees) pose a real risk.

update heard nothing from the RSPB

this is what I had back from the Ecologist who works for the Local council, to be honest it makes me feel not confident, I am going to ask for the name of the person who is going to undertake the study.

Thank you for your email and your concern for the local wildlife.

I am aware of the proposed planning permission and the Council has advised the applicant that any vegetation clearance should be undertaken outside of the bird nesting season (i.e. Outside March to August inclusive) to avoid any conflict with nesting birds. However, if this is not possible we have also advised that areas are checked for nesting birds by a competent ecologist prior to vegetation clearance.
You are correct that birds (as well as their nests and eggs) are protected under the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981 (WCA) (as amended). This makes it an offence to intentionally or recklessly, damage or destroy an active birds’ nest or any part thereof.
If nesting birds are found during development they are protected under the WCA and it is a criminal offense to disturb them. If you think that that a criminal offense is being committed please call 101 (non-emergency) or 999 . This will ensure that the incident(s) are logged and recorded according to South Wales police force policy enabling the incidents and crimes to be properly audited and supervised.

                      I hope this helps

                      Kind Regards

the site survey they completed in December of all months , paid for by the people who are paying for the works to be carried out !!!

!! "roughly" the site was of little interest to wildlife and most of the tree not native to the UK" quote

WELL on Sunday it had a pair of lesser spotted woodpeckers in feeding , grey wagtails along the edge, the area is full of wildlife at the moment with birdsong.
They dont know what they have let themselves in for when I get a bee in my bonnet :paladin:

and telling me to ring the police !!!!
