Anyone watching the Oscars tonight? I always loved watching them but then the Almighty Sky took them and put them on a the Movie Channels which are subscription only. I stopped subscribing to that some years ago when I realised I watched about one movie per month! However, like the football, it's a bit much (I think) that this TV giant is taking over all these special events.

HOWEVER [IMG] I have found an alternative! It's a site called LiveStream (that's a link) and will be showing the Oscars live from beginning to end! Of course, for the UK it doesn't start until about 11pm or later and runs through until about 5am! So I shall be pulling an all nighter!

If Colin Firth and "The King's Speech" don't sweep the boards, I shall be most annoyed! [IMG] [IMG] [IMG] [IMG]

sorry daisee, im with armandii on this one... I cant think of anything worse than overpaid actor(esses) patting each other on the back... :th_scifD36:

I would much prefer to watch such as...

Example of a worthy awards show

People who deserve recognition.

No offense though... I can clearly see you enjoy the oscars, so hope you catch your internet stream, and have a good night.

Well, I like seeing our country getting some plaudits. And "The King's Speech" is a great film. Plus I like Colin Firth - who could forget him coming out of the pond in "Pride and Prejudice"?!

But it was a waste of time anyway - they only showed the red carpet shenanigans, they were a big yawn - all those expensive designer dresses, it was more like a cat walk at a fashion show. Then, just as it was time to start the show - it cut off! So much for my all nighter!

But Colin Firth won, and the film won! Good old Britain! :dbgrtmb:

 Well I don't watch them Daisees, but I am always soo please when we as a Nation suceed above others today as it seems people are only to quick to put us down or admit defeat & that is NOT the true british grit & determination..... Plus our actors do win & deservedly, they entertain us although it is mainly hype & money that talks today I think....

  I backed Britain before & still do & always will too..!! Even if I do not agree with our gov't..!!! :D

Also a bit too 'gushy' for me especially the actesses preening themselves so wouldn't wait up to watch it - however I see from Sky news this morning that Christian Bale got best support which I think he deserves as he has been good in lots of films from an early age ... oh! thanks for the small vid of Darcy emerging from the lake :)

Sorry to hear it wasn't as good to watch as you wanted, Daisee. I had a really good time watching the paint dry - can't beat it while sipping from a glass of good red wine!

I'll back Britain - but I just can't be bothered with the cult of the celebrity.
The films - or whatever - might be excellent, but those Award ceremonies I find excrutiatingly boring and nauseating.
Sorry Daisees. It's not for me, but I'm sorry you were disappointed if you were looking forward to it.

I am afraid I am with Alice and the others - I wish them well, but I actually prefer to see films or series with actors I have never heard of. Everytime I see someone famous - unless they are very well made up, I keep thinking thats so and so from such and such series.

I saw 'The bridges of Madison County' with an aged western gunslinger trying to pretend he was a modern romantic. It really spoilt the film.

I watched James bond on ITV the other night (Tomorrow Never Dies). It stars Judi Dench and Geoffrey Palmer, both who starred in a sitcom on UK television. Think it was called 'As time goes by', but I may be wrong.

Looked very odd with them in different character. :rolleyespink:
