At the end of November I received the Unwins catalogue, I placed an order for some Chrysanth plants and sent a cheque for the required amount,on the 2nd December this cheque was cashed and I received a letter to say the said plants would be despatched in 14 days we are now the 18th January no plants...so I rang Unwins to enquire where they were, to be told that they would not be dispatched until end of March when I reminded them that they had my money since December I was told that this was company policy...be interested to hear if any one else has had problems with this firm and if so how they had delt with it.

Most companies will do this, it sucks but they do it as a sort of guarantee I suppose, not much fun for the customer.

The best wat to deal with the problem is what you have done, tell the world about it, and then NEVER use them again. :D

Yep. It's fair enough if cataloges or adverts clearly state that plants will despatched at a suitable time for planting and they are taking advance orders but it's really off to just sit on your cash for a few months when they have already written confirming a delivery date.

Sounds a tad sharp to me

We buy plants from QVC and they never take your money until the items are dispatched, so if you change your mind you don't have to wait to get a refund like some of these companies, quick to take it but slow to give it back. QVC do some lovely plants and you have a 30 day money back guarantee if they are not what you want, good eh. We have always been really pleased with their plants and flowers, looking forward to it all starting again soon [IMG]

Lisa I too use QVC finding them very good - and eventually tried them for plants discovering in the process that their supplier was Thompson Morgan. Sadly whilst the plants were excellent quality - when they came into flower (after the 30 days) not all were as labelled e.g. mixed pinks were all one colour, and a not so good experience with the oriental lilies bulbs which looks so good. So I think for now I will return to getting my plants the old way.

A year or so back I ordered some lavendar plants from a catalogue. When they arrived they were very much the worse for wear and didn't look as if it was worth the trouble planting them. Complained to the company and had a refund, being told not to bother to return the 'dead' plants. Well, we did put them in the garden and guess what - they grew into some quite nice plants! Do you think we should send the money back to them? :D :D

from a company s point of view it is difficult to have cheques floating around in limbo. both in financial and in logistical terms....... i rem losing a chque at work, it had got stuck in top of drawer when the desk had been turned upside down in the removals!....... i only knew id lost it cos it was post dated and it was such an unusual transaction.........

Who are QVC? never heard of them...Reckon my tiny patch is well full up now but.....there might be a tiny space for something special...on this wet grey miserable morning the only thought that is stopping me crawling back to bed is that I have to take the dog out...and I am 75 tomorrow so perhaps the Postie will come!!early

Hi Rosietu, Happy Birthday to You- have a lovely day tomorrow.
    QVC:-
    http://www.qvc.com/asp/frameset.asp?class=7215&tmp=hp&cont=sn&cm_re=HP-_-SIDENAV-_-LAWN&GARDEN
I haven't heard of them before either.
I've had similar problems with plants before- Spalding made me wait a whole year before accepting that my Actinidia Kolomikta was not Kolomikta but plain leaved Kiwi fruit, and then only gave me a credit note! [Which I promptly lost, but that was my fault].
I'd love to have the interest that accrues on all these delayed transactions- banks in particular annoy me as they have no problem in taking your money overnight, but take 4-5 days to pay it out...
