I bought a beautiful scented rose bush earlier this year. It initially had about four blooms on it but these soon withered and fell awy. Since then no more roses. The rest of the plant looks very green and healthy. What am I doing wrong?

From my experience roses never do very well in their first year, gets better with each successive year though.

I can't remember its name but it came from RHS Wisley garden centre so thought it would be very good quality. It really did not like being transplanted from the pot to the earth bed - that's when it started to look sad :(

Hi Sterile ,Don,t worry about your Rose to much, maybe it would be better to replant it in about two months time, but first please check that it is firmly planted where it now and not suffering from Wind rock, for now just make sure it is watered regularly:)

I know just what you mean, all my roses used to look lovely until I planted them and then within a short time they were covered in black spot and looked horrid. Within a few years though they did seem to recover, almost as if they became adjusted to the conditions. I am growing some now in large tubs and so far these are doing well, perhaps my garden soil is just rubbish although we have clay here and that is supposed to be good!!:skp:
    Good luck with your rose.
