It would be interesting to know what attracts people to gardneing? What is it that makes you want to do it as a hobby?

I love gardening because i can get away from the hassle of life and relax and do something so satisfying and rewarding.

I just find it relaxing GG. It's so nice to be able to create and develop something so very slowly without having to hassle. If it goes wrong you can just start again, but maybe not until next year. I love growing from seed and cuttings etc.. I 'hate' people who buy fully grown gardens and just pop them in the soil.

Same as John i just finding it relaxing!! Before i brought my first house 3 years ago i told my mother-in-law that i wou;d concrete over any bit of garden that i got because gardening is boring!!! I was younger then and a little naive :D .Now i grow most of my flowers and veg from seed. Brought a greenhouse last month and enjoying it more than ever. Just wish it would warm up just alittle [IMG]

The strange thing is I never had a garden as a child. I was 23 with 2 young children of my own before I did. I think it is really important to have a garden from a young age, it gives you something special I can't really put into words. Can anyone understand where I'm coming from? [IMG]

Some start early some start late, the start late ones are, I think, in the majority these days.
lots of people dont start until they retire and have the time.
Me I started early, and I must admit tend to be tailing off these days, I'm not quite as keen as I used to be.
I still get that thrill of germinating something new, but its not got the same draw as it did have a few years ago.
Still like to grow plants that are different from the norm, but not so obsesed with it as I was. :D

Welcome to g c G G,it's in ones nature to nurture it's a survival instinct,it has always fascinated me that you can get a handful of soil pop in a seed the size of a speck of dust give it the right conditions and watch a plant grow that has shape, beauty, scent and sometimes taste, a feat that the greatest scientists in the world can't emulate.
