    Because we can?

Just got back from Tesco's, they've got 5kg bags of Cara's on sale for 25p - I kid you not.

There was no mention of this on their website this morning!

Their "superstore" near me will soon run out if I have my way, I'm going back tomorrow! :dancy:

One good reason to grow potatoes is that you do not have so many chemicals used to grow them.
A good reason to grow Cara is that they keep on growing right up till Christmas if the frosts are not too severe. The skins do not set on Cara until after Christmas usualy. I know because I have grown, harvested and bagged thousands of tons in my old job.

Thanks for the reply blacksmith, I do and will continue to grow Cara's, in my opinion the best all rounder currently available.
But should I grow them? At 25p per 5 kilos, near as damn it 2p a pound would it be worthwhile to use up valuable growing space?

Simple answer is YES! Tesco's totally sold out today BUT..... if your canny, check out the variety label on their cheapies, Maris Piper £1.95 for 2.5kg, Everyday Tesco spuds only 15p for 2.5kg, guess what, yup, the're maris pipers, £1.80 saving, NOW that's a bargain!

Damn, growing Maris Piper spuds too :(

If you don't have the room to grow potatoes then don't, there are lots of other veg that are best straight out of the garden, if it is just the cost then you will eat healthier with home grown. It is amazing that potatoes are still the same price they were 25 years ago, in fact when the weather was to wet to harvest all the crops they were over double the price.
