My golden Thyme gone green? I bought it around march and planted it in a good sunny position but its very nice golden foliage has steadily given way to a rather boring green. any clues?

I am afraid that would leave very little growth. It isn't new shoots coming up green it is the whole bush turning green!

I've had that happen too over the course of a couple of seasons but your thyme seems to have reverted very quickly. Did you buy it from a garden centre?
Most of the big garden centre chains seem to import their basic herbs from Italy or Spain and I've a suspicion that exposure to the rigours of a cold British spring stresses the plant too much. It reverts to its basic strain as a sort of defence mechanism. Mind you, I have absolutely no proof of this and am very willing to be corrected by someone with more knowledge.

maybe it didn't like the dry spell. It has only been in since March and was actually one of the more expensive varieties. Picked it up from Westholmes nursery near Irelands Cross

I had an Archer's Gold thyme (turned its toes up this winter, unfortunately) that always went green in the spring. The label said it's at its yellowest later in the year. Bit of a con if you want a yellow one, but be patient and you might find it turns back!
