I'll start with one that's not in flower yet - these are what they call "vine leeks" here. The locals used to dig them up when they were working in the fields to eat with their cheese. Pretty pungent, I reckon!!

And another one that IS in flower- but you'd hardly know! This is Butcher's Broom, with "leaves" which - as you may know - are actually flattened stems. So the flowers, which are tiny, seem to sit in the middle of the leaves. The fruit is the red berry, left from last year. It grows as a sub-shrub under the oaks in our little oak wood.

And finally - the mystery drupe!!! I can't find anything with this flower in my handbooks - the reddish eye is the oddity - I'm pretty sure it's a cherry. Could it be St. Lucie's cherry? Not bird cherry - the petals are too wide. Anybody got any ideas?? At first I thought it might be sloe - but it doesn't have the right fruit... [IMG]

Well, there we are LoL! Something to keep you amused for a few seconds!!!! Orchids when they appear. I did try to get some herps, strongy - but I'll need my better gear for that! Now... where the *$"! are those boxes??

Your vine leek looks like something I've got out on the lane, but it's all muddy after this morning's rains. I'll go out after and yank one up to see if it's the same.

I'll look in my new book I just told you about for the mystery flower. The book covers all coastal areas around the Med, obviously all the islands, 3/4 of Italy and half of Spain and Portugal.

The pictures are lovely and you've done well with your old camera. We've got a Polaroid PDC2070 2.1 megapixel but I don't like it so t'other half is using it in conjunction with Skype and I'm using a 2000 model Kodak DC4800 Zoom Digital which I do like although I basically look and shoot ... must learn a bit more about it.

Thank you so much ... wasn't putting pressure on you to do it immediately ... well ...

Unfortunately, no success in my new book! [IMG] I agree it's not quite right for the Prunus spinosa (sloe) but in my "bible" Aussie book, it resembles the Prunus serrulata (the Sato-zakura group) of which there are many hybrids.

With that pink tinge, it's similar to my almond blossom. They are all beautiful blossoms.

Is is scented? What do the fruit look like?
