We went on our Sunday outing back up into the Serras do Calderao and it was foggy and drizzly but still beautiful.

I only took pictures of some wildflowers (missed the Montbretia and Ericas as they are winding mountain roads and there's not always a good place to pull over or stop. I did get a few however but they are not good as I was rushing about in the rain ...

The Narcissus tazetta, native to Portugal ...

The white Iris, of which I know nothing but can be seen in drifts here in some places ...

... we also have tiny purple Irises, from ground to tip of flower about four inches tall.

The Malva (Mallow) from the Lavetera family ...

And this is not a wildflower, the Lotus bertelotti, but as we were passing it in Alte I just had to take a picture ... it is about 8-10 foot across and part of several along this wall ...

Yeah, that lotus is amazing when you compare it to our containerised summer bedding plants.

Kandy, I'll try to get a picture of the "drifts" of it this month.

Pete, you wouldn't believe this in the summer .. again, I'll get a long shot of the whole aspect of it ... it's quite breath taking, especially when you see what the background will be ...

When I asked t'other half to suddenly stop the car to take the photo he said, haven't looked, how's ours doing ... bl**dy pathetic to this said I!

Nice to see the lotus in flower at this time of the year, does it take a rest in mid summer?

Actually, pete, my pathetic example is taking a rest now but I expect it to be spectacular in the summer or else it and I will have to have a serious discussion!

I think this particular one of many on the wall gets full sun all day ... and we do have 300 plus days of sun a year. In he summer, you won't see any green ... so you can be green with envy! :D

Have a few more wildflowers just coming up to opening time so I'll be posting more here.

Stunning flowers LoL, what a treat at this time of year. My lotus is overwintering in the greenhouse and I thought it looked quite good but now that I've seen the one on the wall mine looks pathetic.
