Hi, was wondering if this Ceanothus shrub/tree will cause any problems to the house. e.g. roots getting into the brick work as its quite close. And any advice on when and how far back it should be trimmed.

I would doubt it will ever get big enough to cause structural problems.
I usually prune mine as soon as the flowers are finished.
Best not to cut back too hard into brown wood, only go back to leave some green leaves.

I'd suggest that it's not going to cause structural problems to the house as modern builds have a far more substantial foundation than previous houses. Biggest problem for you is the tree blocking the light coming into your and your neighbour's windows!
