My windows xp went belly up and refused to start, I tried a repair from my disc but had reinstall a new version in a new partition. I have managed to recover most of my old files and transfer them to my new windows2, but need to uninstall the old windows. How to do and what snags etc?

I don't think that you need to uninstall the old XP. You say you have installed the new one in its own partition. If you have saved everything you want off the old partion (assuming that the old XP was in a separate partition and not in the root directory of the main drive) you could then format the old partition. If however, your new partition is a part of the original partition you would be formatting the new partion as well. The new partition would need to show as anything except C: i.e. D: or E:.

I have recently changed from Windows XP to Ubuntu Linux, luckily I was using Open Office under XP so was able to transfer the data files and use them under Linux.
