Thing is I never knew it was coming...
I was instantly alerted by the engine noise from many years in the RAF
And it was only about 500 feet high !
    Magic
When I was in Malaysia we used to service visiting aircraft and we usually ask the pilots to give our Squadron hut which was well exposed on the airfeld a bit of a "beat up"
Anyhow this Vulcan took off and dissapeared behind Penang Island and then came across the straits low and pulled up right above "The Hut".
    well... you can imagine...
It was fantastic. Earthquake, hurricane and tornado... all in one.
    I shall never forget

Oh yes. another treat yesterday to see a North American T6.. a Harvard as we know it in this country.
    Looked really clean and tidy.

We went to WingsandWheels at Dunsford Park last month and had the privilege of seeing the Vulcan perform there. It was the first time I had seen it and Wow...made me want to go and join the Vulcan Club to support this beautiful piece of engineering :)

:gnthb: Robert you certainly had a good day then 2 in 1..!!! The Harvard was a little beauty... You were privy to some fantastic aircraft during your time in the RAF Robert.. Whether you always appreciated them at the time is a different matter :dh: but now nostalgia must kick in now too...:gnthb:

:yez: Isn't it a fantastic machine Aaron, makes you feel awe struck I think if you are lucky enough to have it fly over you... I was lucky enough to experience it's flight into combat in the Falklands.. It had just taken off about 12 miles away after re- fuelling.. I can only describe it as an awesome & priveleged feeling knowing where it was going & what they was going to do.........!! Always so proud of our boys... :yho:

What a lovely moment Robert. Don't they make the most incredible noise, it's wonderful that they have managed to get one flying again.

Aaron, I used to work at Dunsfold until BAE Systems decided to close it about 10 years ago. The Wings and Wheels is a great day out and carries on what were our family days there. Did you know that Dunsfold is where Top Gear do their filming? it seems quite strange watching the Stig driving around past my old office.

Blimey, are they still flying, remember them from when I was a kid.

My Daughter came running in from the garden once & said dad, theres a man in a ballon above our house & he's shouting Ziggy.

It was one of my labourers, he'd badgered people untill someone sponsered him to get a ballon.

Didn't know that John - what fun that must have been! A friend lives outside Loxwood and she says that when BAE were testing planes, you have to stop what you were doing as the noise as they went overhead prevented conversation or anything else!

We got up at the crack of dawn this morning to watch a hot air balloon club setting off and heading east across Sussex towards the South Downs. A magical sight, made even better by a beautiful sunset. Will post some pics later.

I took this b&w photo of an Avro Vulcan at St Faith's aerodrome in a 1960-something air show.
    Check out those heels!

Great photo Daisees! I've an idea it might be a Handley Page Victor rather than a Vulcan, but I'm no expert so can (usually am) be wrong. Can't identify the heels though :)
