:) Does anyone have any ideas how to take the chill of a room, apart from the obvious and cuddling etc.lol.
If some one COULD think of something..........they would soon be very rich lol.
I find that just having the glow only on the electric fire makes the room seem warmer...
    What about polystyrene cushions.....

Declutter ..... redecorate with soft, warm colours ..... add plush cushions, low lights, soft music by surround sound ... glow of a fire if it's not necessary to have a real one at the time ... cats on laps .... lush houseplants in the corners .... lighting outside to bring the outdoors/indoors theory into the scene .... that's only the living room .... :)

    unusual topic from our roders...
Polystyrene has excellent insulating properties. I am a fan of polystyrene! I keep most of the polystyrene which comes in packages for example around the washing machine, in the hope to use it eventually to insulate some plants.
As far as making a room feel warmer, I think that one candle or chandelier creates a nice atmosphere and also makes the air a little warmer.
Lights and disposition of the lights not only create a nice glow but also a little warmth.
Then the soft furnishing has to be so that as you put hands on it it feels warm after a few seconds so for example velvet etc then the windows have to have a nice set of lined curtains, maybe even a double set of curtains that are as effective as double windows.
what else...I think that wood is great. I would personally have a pine wooden floor (and few rugs) like they have in Sweden if I could. There, they also use sawdust as insulator for the wooden walls of the houses.

You could strip naked run around outside for a half hour sprinkling ice chips all over you, then run back in-the room will seem at least 10*warmer.
