I am new to gardening, only started last year when I moved house.I planted lots of pansy plugs last summer and was really pleased with the way they bloomed right in to early winter (one or two flowers are still appearing). This made me think odf winter flowering pansies for a bit of colour until spring. I again bought loads of plugs and planted them in terracota pots on the decking in front of the house. They have produced lots of leaves (though not very big) but only ONE(!) flower so far. The decking faces west over the River Clyde and is very exposed and windy but the winter hasn't been too hard here (west coast of Scotland) with hardly any frost and the summer pansies are in the same place. I used something called Rootgrow when I planted the plugs but it doesn't seem to have done much good.Could the flowers still come or am I wasting my time with them -the plants actually look very healthy apart from no flowers.Any comments would be appreciated.

Hi there and welcome - I think that these may not have been winter flowering pansies - or rather ones that have been prepared to flower in the winter. The only other reason, if they are looking healthy, is they are just too compfortable. Reduce the watering and restrict feeding to once a fortnight and then only something potash rich, like tomatoe food.

They should flower - but prolly not until the early spring.

Thanks Fran. They are actually "winter flowering", bought online from one of the reputable companies-maybe Suttons. I have liquid tomato food so I'll try that. Thanks again

As Fran says they probably will flower later, you should have a good display by april into may maybe longer. Patience is a gardening learning curve.(I haven't reached the end of it yet).

is that a yucca filimentosa, Strongylodon? Looks like it! and have you had flowers? I'd love to get one going up here, but I think I might be pushing it!

Same kind of start for the avator - chose your piccie. Resize to 100, and upload to photobucket. Copy the URL address of the picture (thats the first one in the three little boxes).

Then go to this forum. Select my profile, then Edit profile. Scroll down to where it says Avator. Click on Image and a little window comes up - with some avators on the right and a littel avator image. Scroll down to the bottom of the box and paste in the URL address from photobucket. The image will appear in the avator piccie on the left. Click select image and close the window.

You should then see it appear in your profile. Go to the bottom and click update profile.

Thats it - and it should appear in your next new post.
