Hi all, I've been looking at winter flowering plants and would appreciate some advice. I have found 2 honeysuckles, fragrantissima and purposii [sp?] has anyone got either? Also Hammemelis, any recommendations?
    What else? [IMG]

Got both of the Lonicera, not showy flowers but the scent is wonderful
Never managed to find any scent on Hamemaelis mollis.
We also have Viburunm x bodnantense Dawn, Charles Lamont and a third, name escapes me at present. V. tinus also flowers over Winter.
Then if you do not mind prickly leaves Mahonia flowers well from now until January, scent is there but again not strong to me at least.
Always find a place for Jasmine nudiflorum, flowers all winter, no scent though.

    Daphne
almost insignificant little plant/small bush, deciduos, strikng spikes of flowers [pink]on bare branches from late winter to early spring, red fruits in summer... all partd highly toxic so not grown where kiddies might try the berries!

Daphne bholua is definitely not am small plant, ours is now about 6 feet tall and 3 feet across. Lady Gardener is thinking of Daphne mezureum or D tangutica (more common ones) ot perhaps some of the new hybrids of D.cernua. D bholua Jacqueline Postil rarely sets berries in Britain, sadly. There are others too with greenish or yellow flowers. There are also white flowered and variegated ones. Daphne odora is perhaps the strongest scented, but it is sadly too tender for me here. The native Daphne is D. laureola with greenish'yellow flowers.

Osmanthus is the best scented plant for me in the winter - also have viburnum, Daphne and Mahonia and others. My wife will be out with the scissors when the Osmanthus flowers but not for others.
