    Evening all.

Having seen a couple of onion threads it got me to thinking. At the back end of last year I planted some onion sets that were sold to me as winter onions. They are growing ok but I do keep forgetting to look, seeing as its been winter, and they are in the far end of the garden.

Now I'm wondering when should I expect them to be ready? Last time I looked, a couple of weeks ago, the top growth was about 6 inches high.

    Hiya C1.

Basically, this type give you a head-start to the growing season. I've never grown them myself, so I can't say with any confidence, but I would think you could start to pull them around July(?) As with all sets, they are prone to bolting, although some are heat treated, which is said to negate the chances of bolting.

Cheers Freddy. I probably wont wait til July, I'll probably start using them as spring onions just pulling them as and when we want some and leaving the rest to grow a bit more. That's pretty much what I did with last year's ones.

On a seperate note, with regard to your signature block...
