Update on my garden so far, starting with the side border...

Bird of Paradise, looks ok, though our dog has damaged quite a lot of the plants in the border, as you can see on one of the leaves here.

Bougainvillea still in leaf, despite the rather cold winter so far.

Schefflera aboricola looking ok, still growing slowly too

Chamaedorea elegans (Parlour palm), also been slowly growing through the winter.. not phased one bit

Clivia miniata looking ok, still slowly growing, but again dog destroyed the lead on the right.. which is annoying.. hence the wire fence.

    Next lot the front garden.

Gazania looking a little fed up but still trying to flower despite all.

Crinodendron hookerianum with Springs flower crop developing.

Three Yuccas, Yucca gloriosa on the left, Yucca gloriosa 'variegata' on the right, and Yucca elephantipes in the middle.

Trachycarpus fortunei, Rhododendron simsii (at the base on the right of the Trachy), and Luma apiculata to the right of that.

    Back garden now..

Brugmansia sanguinea surviving in leaf (just) with a tired looking flower on.

I'm surprised your Bouganvillea has survived this far north Stephen, I presume it's in a sheltered spot. Has it flowered?

They look amazing Stephen. I still can't believe your local climate. But it also shows that some tropical plants are tougher than we give them credit for.

Yes Sheal it's in a sheltered spot, but still gets wind/rain etc etc. It hasn't yet flowered, but it usually drops its leaves in Spring, because I don't water the soil in Winter, so it gets dry and thus loses it's leaves. Bougainvillea are dry climate deciduous in some parts of Brazil.

Peter, yes, I never even worry about my Schefflera, Bird of Paradise or Parlour palm when a cold spell comes, because I know it'll never be cold enough in that area, to damage them.
