That's council run sites for you far too many rules and regulations and you don't know you're in the worng until it's too late it's shocking.

What does it matter whether the old lass grows veg or flowers just as long as the plot is worked that should be good enough! I grow a fair few flowers and next year intend to go even more!

They should leave the lady alone and let her do her own thing because at 89 that's one cracking achievement to still be able to 'work' a plot.Hel.xxx.

That's absolutely disgusting. I'm not surprised she's not growing vegetables, it sounds like there's a glut of them working for the Council

Petty little council bureaucrats, unable to see the big picture but more than happy to nit pick. Ironically, older people are told to keep active by government agencies...and the council disregard this. What a shame - but if her MP is on the case, maybe she'll get lucky, especially with press coverage. Councils hate looking stupid in the press (funny, you think they'd have got used to it by now!).

bloody disgusting imho........there are some allotments that have plots neglected for years and nothing is said or done about them.

she's tended the plot and kept it presentable so i can't see what the problem is:scratch:

Definitely bullying and a disgrace! If someone tends a plot for 30 years you'd think they would have some claim to it especially when other plots go unmanaged.

What do you suppose would come up if we planted the councillors lol?

Sorry, but you should all check the allotments act. The purpose of allotments is to produce food. Though, nowadays, the law has been relaxed somewhat, the majority of crops should still be edible. BUT, taking such a high handed attitude to an 89 year old is deplorable, and could have been handled better.

You're right Peri - it is harassment and bullying - and anybody treating a senior in this country, who survived childhood in the war, rations as a child etc., should be ashamed of themselves. They went without as children, let them have some enjoyment in their retirement. Almost criminal!

It would be nice to see the council back down and allow her to enjoy her flowers - it's probably her biggest enjoyment of the season at this stage in her life.

Poor lady. What a shame somebody couldn't help her to grow her vegetables. What's happened to doing something to help another?

I did think of that - at our allotment everybody is just so friendly and helpful - it really is a community based place. Wonder if any of the neighbouring allotment owners would consider helping her have some vege area so that she could continue on.....but then.....an allotment is alot of work - would they have the time throughout the season to do that? I'm sure on a pension she would appreciate the value of the veges too.
