I got fed up with being trapped indoors with this cold, grey, depressing weather so a couple of days ago I got in the car and drove to a Nature Reserve I've never been to before. Around here we've just not had the snowfall but Shropshire was a different matter. I took the camera, some vague directions on how to get to the Reserve, and hoped for the best about being able to get there due to any snow. The main roads were clear and dry and it wasn't until I got close and turned off the main road onto a one car width lane, [which turned out to be the wrong one:gaah:], that the snow became banked up on either side with long stretches of deep freezing water in the dips. Luckily, I didn't meet any cars coming the other way as backing up and trying to find a passing place under all the snow would have been a nightmare. I eventually found the place, more by luck than judgement.:heehee:

This is a good part of the one car width lane:

I managed to get a few shots of the birds there. It's an ex-working Gravel Quarry area with working still taking place alongside the Nature Reserve which has numerous Lakes, Ponds and Lagoons. I didn't get to see them all as the weather was bitter cold and this was just a first exploratory visit.

It was such a bitterly cold day I'm surprised that there were any birds there!! You certainly wouldn't have got me dipping my toes in the water.:hate-shocked: I'll have to go back when the weather is better I guess.

You now see what we have to put up with round here when it comes to gardening!
You almost had to drive past us to get there Armandii.

Lovely pics, and just round the corner from us. I got stuck in one of those snowy lanes last week, family had to come and dig me out! Must make another visit up there after the snow
