For about a week, there have been a pair of Wood Pigeons permanently in the wisteria which grows over my pergola. A few days ago I noticed them bringing sticks into it ( most of which keep falling through but they persist ) I go in and out of the patio door and they don't shift. They can't be nesting in late summer surely ?
Anyone heard of this ?

I think they can breed from April until August/ September and sometimes a little later even:)

Yes, Blueroses, mine are on their second brood, having already raised at least four babies who are now large ungainly teenagers! Since I appear to be paying the bill for most of their food, I think I may need a second mortgage by the end of the summer .....

OIC.............. did yours lay in the same nest then? This will be a new one

P.S. just been for a close look, the pigeons are gone, all the nesting material is on the floor, and next door's cat is sitting where it was !

Oh dear .... I obviously have chav woodpigeons, because my cat is terrified of them! :lollol: Mine have been out collecting nesting material but I think they may be doing a quick refurb rather than a new build :). The nest seems to be in the same place - ie, in a large sycamore tree just beyond the end of my garden.

It is a pity, although you can have too many woodpigeons :lollol:. Seriously, my cat doesn't mess with them. They have mean-looking beaks and they know how to use them!

A few years back my mother's cat made the mistake of pouncing on a magpie. Its mate swooped down and did a pretty good re-enactment of The Birds all on its own, until moggie let go and ran for cover!

My own cat is getting older and not as agile as he was. I dont think he would get up there, but next door's is a young cat and has no such challenges. k-l
