I tried it years ago as a friend had one. Great fun, very therapeutic. I don't know much about tools, etc though, sorry. Is your woodturner electric or manual?

I have a beautiful piece made by my friend from a fallen tree that grew in Trinity College, Dublin.

    Enjoy :)

His lathe is electric ,there are so many beautiful pieces of wood and when turned such a treasure.

Thank you anyway ,I shall keep searching as would much prefer to get the tool than a gift voucher.

Electric is probably easier for a beginner to use. The friend who had one had never used one before and she turned into a real master after quite a short space of time working on it. She ended up making handles for other friends' tools and kitchen equipment in the end.

I'd say chisels would be a handy tool to start with! And don't use a precious piece of wood to practise on, try a piece you don't mind losing.
