Took a couple of stems off my filipendula atropurpurea through the week, as they were infested with this mass of grey bugs. Seems to got rid of them - but what are the 'orrible little things?

Not woolly aphids - which are currently on my apple tree. (that looks like cotton wool on your plants) but definatey aphids looks a bit like the big lupin aphids, I would keep an eye on the plant I expect they'll be back.

Your right ellie - I picked another few infested stems yesterday.

Never seen aphids like these before - green ones, and black ones, but not these nasty grey flakey ones...
