The lily you can leave in the water; it will die back and then resurface next year.
        Same with your iris :)

No experience of the other plants, so I don't know about those FM.

You may want to cover your pond at this time of year with a netting to stop the leaves from trees dropping into your pond and putrifying. Pesky leaves can blow in from anywhere at this time of year!

        Nice pond, matey :dbgrtmb:

Hi Nick, they are seem to be fairly hardy marginal plants so providing the whole of the pond doesn't freeze solid they should be okay where they are. You're right it is that time of year when all plants die back at least a little. Just as a matter of interest how deep have you made the pond??.:snork:

After 2 decades of having ponds, sadly I'm without now... but used to have lots of marginals and lilies and have just left them be. They've always popped up nicely year after year. A few times I have split the lilies when they've taken over a particular spot. As mentioned previously, try to keep leaves out and if you have fish, float something to prevent the surface from completely freezing over.

Hi Nick, sorry for the delay in replying [been a bit busy:heehee:]. My marginal plants are in plastic crates filled with garden soil, covered on the top with gravel, on shelves about 9 inches below the surface, which makes the tops of the crates about 2 inches below the surface depending on the water level. They've been there since '93 without any loss through all the hard Winters, so I reckon yours will be just fine.:snork:

I have just cut back the dead foliage FM but i dont know what im doing with all my plants in the pond either, you can get serious brain ache googling all the info! :heehee:
My fish pond(prob 2ft deep) has not got shelves big enough for crates like armandii's cos its a plastic one :) and my wild life one(liner) is usually shaded by gunnera so i cant grow much at height in there :dunno:
So im thinking i might lose some plants on my shelves like creeping jenny(shallow water margins) if we get a prolonged freeze :cry3:
