So back in October I posted about the sorry state of my garden, and how best to fix it.

    Thread here: http://www.gardenerscorner.co.uk/forum/threads/my-garden-is-a-mess-is-it-too-late-to-fix-it.104797/

Following the advice of a few people I cut the forest down, and left it over winter. So..

    What now??

The garden currently looks like this:

An improvement (maybe). Though a little less luscious than I might like.

I've attached a couple of pictures of what's currently growing there. I fear that the bulk of those leaves might actually be potatoes...

Anyway, what's the next step and when shall I do it?

I have roundup, and a fork. When is best to start spraying/digging/planting seeds?

    Thanks!!

    Chris

Can't see any tatie leaves in there.

Not much you can do at the moment. If it's not soggy you might be able to dig it over and level it ready for spring.

What is the soil like? It looks fairly rich and free draining. Is that right? Only possible thing I'd do now is prepare the ground, ensuring it drains well (mix in sharp sand and grit if it doesn't), add some compost if necessary (probably isn't, judging by the pics). Get it nice and level and reasonable compacted. Not too compacted so that nothing can grow, but enough so that when you walk on it when it's lawned over, it doesn't sink under foot.

Ah, when I initially cut it down I pulled up a lot of potatoes...

    So no weed killing yet?

And I think it drains well, the previous tenants used it mostly as a veg patch.
