    Hi
We planted a norwegian spruce in our south west facing garden in March this year. All was fine until the past 4 weeks when I noticed the top foliage was turning brown and neddles were dropping out. I intially thought it was wind damage as we are quite exposed and it has been windy over the past few month's. I fed the tree and cleared away surrounding growth from other shrubs as they were starting to impinge on the tree. Tonight however I have noticed the same brown foliage on the ends of quite a few other branches. Has anybody got an idea what the problem could be.

They can get a bit messy at times...acid type feed would help if necessary. But they are very hardy.

Maybe dig away some of the top soil and replace it with ericaceous compost.:thumb:

The poor thing is losing its leaves. They all do this (evergreens are not really evergreen :))
It will grow back its pines in a few weeks time :)

I got a 5" Christmas tree from B&Q some years ago - was in the 'sick bay' for 50p! I nurtured it and planted it out in the garden where it flourished - too much!

Well, that was the the height in 05 at 3 years old! This year it was almost as tall as me and completely obscuring my view of the garden when I sat in my chair there. I couldn't find another home for it, neither in my garden nor anyone else's so it had to go!

Short life but a merry one, I trow!

Are the lower branches actually growing? If so then the tree is alive. If not then you could have the old problem. When trees are dug up for the C trade they are not taken much care of, if the roots dry out they will not grow.

When I worked for the H.M. Forestry Commission on a nursery, it was a sackable offence to leave tree roots exposed, they had to be "heeled in" straight away. There used to be a tale about tree roots being boiled to stop them growing, rubbish, you only have to let them dry out.
