My XP has updated - I have been trying keep it as it was because I liked the set-up but this morning it took over two hours to get on line so in the end I updated intending to do a system restore if it didn't work.
Well, yes my dial-up worked at last - hooray- but it refused to do a system restore to the old set-up so looks like I'm stuck with it now.
I do however have a problem in that the font size seems to be extremely small to what it was and if I scroll with the mouse to make it larger I lose all the edges of the page.

Please can somebody advise if there is anyway I can make the font larger?

i assume you mean the fonts on the windows explorer :D

try tools......at the top of you windows explorer browser......then go to text size and try there.

if you are using AOL...then hold down the shift key whilst you adjust using the scroller on the mouse.

    Hi Blackthorn,
Well, I did wonder about emptying the computer and rebooting it from scratch with my install CD but that seems a major operation . . . .

Glad I'm not the only one who doesn't like it.

I also don't like the new Windows Media Player but have managed to keep the old one at the moment although I keep getting a flag up that says to update.

Problem is I don't like to keep changing things for the sake of it - why can't they leave it as it is?

Why so change resistant, my children? If it weren't for the boffins at MS, we'd still be using BASIC code and typing white words on a black background - oh, perhaps you never experienced those 'dark ages'!!

Listen - in a month or so, you'll have a job remembering the old set-up.

I would not suggest rebooting with OS Cd. It will not turn the clock back, and if it did reinstall the OS with out major glitching, you may find that your programmes and data are not recognised.

I like Explorer 7. I love the 'tabbed' browsing, means you can have more than 1 site open for every open program/explorer in the bottom tab, + you have an on board Google search in the top right of the screen.

I think the change is a nice clean one, it will take a while to go straight to things like 'refresh' and 'stop', but I think it is a good change.

My rule of thumb is to keep all auto updates OFF. If I hear of a useful one I'll go and get it. ZoneAlarm reminds me if something tries to sneak off and update itself, and I can say NO.
I do hide behind a hardware firewall, and keep AVG and Spybot SOD up to date, and run them regularly.
That way I get used to the "feel" of the computer, and notice if there is something amiss much quicker. Touch wood, nothing yet (since 1987).

"If it weren't for the boffins at MS,"

Boffins isn't the word I use about those at MS, but it does begin with a B. :D

My next OS will be Linux, not Vista. Hence I already use FireFox.

    Nik

New pc? that's great WF. I am sure you will soon get used to it.

As you see from my previous postings in this thread, I do not like change,
but I must admit I have now got used to the XP update and yes,
I even like it now! :D
