Ive been try to load XP onto my girlfriends computer.Problem is,everytime that the computer re-starts during set up,instead of carrying on from where it re-started,the disc starts from the beginning again.

Has anyone please, got any ideas of what might be wrong.

    Thanks in advance,
    Joe.

Joe, I'm no expert but perhaps you need to take the CD-ROM out of the drive when it re-boots?

Thanks, but i've never had to do that before.
I'm thinking that maybe i've blown the HD,or maybe the motherboard is knackered.
    Regardless,its something that i havn't tried yet,so i'll give it a go.
    Thanks.

Can you get into the BIOS on startup and run any low level diagnostics to check the HD and motherboard?

    Not until tomorrow.
I might have a possible cause now.I need to get into BIOS,and check that Hard Drive is before CD in the boot file list.
If its not.......it seems that the cd drive will start up as normal, which is my problem.
Cant give it a check 'till tomorrow though.
    I'll let you know.
    Thanks again for helping out.
    Joe

I'd check the boot menu in your bios first. If you can load windows its highly unlikely to be the Motherboard or the Hard Drive.

As mentioned above if your machine is set to boot from CD first guess what's going to happen.;)
Normally though most machines have a prompt to boot from the CD when this is the case. If you just leave the keys alone the Computer will boot from the hard drive after about 10-20 seconds.

Check the boot menu in the bios but be careful as changing settings in the bios can create more issues.
