I gave way to any patience that I've been trying to maintain and visited RHS Wisley today - bought chilli, tomato, pumpkin seeds, three different bags of potato seedlings/chittings? and some horseradish. Got a new propagator and very excited! :yahoo:
Any tips for growing the horseradish?

P.S. Also bought some strawberry plants. My strawberry crop was tragic last year so would appreciate some advice on those :rolleyespink:

I grow mine in a couple of large pots, with a paving slab under them. I don't want it escaping into the garden! its a weed with an atrocious reputation!

    "potato seedlings/chittings?"

I think "Seed Potatoes" is the phrase you are reaching for?!

It gets you like that at this time of year. Last years food is dwindling now & the prospect of living off seed sprouts & kale is looming. Thats why i've been bringing stuff on on the window sills & in cold frames.

What type of soil & how much sun did your strawberries get last season ?

Chopper gave me a load of strawberry plants last week. Most of them have been potted up & put in a polystyrene fish box with glass on the top. Soil temperature today(this is without heating) was 21c & one of them is flowering. I'm risking getting mold on them though, so will keep my eye on them with regard to ventilation.

If that was their first year then they may do better this season, strawberries will crop good for 3/4 years then get a bit tired.

Always worth a visit to Wisley, not been since I moved from Guildford. Still got Boris the Olive tree that I bought from there when he was just a twig. I think it was Pete who told me to bring him in during the snow:thumbsup:

    If it wasn't Pete, then i'm due a slap.:pcthwack:

I have strawberries. I bought them last year from Suttons.

I believe they are called Sonata. They fruited right throught to late August into September.

They are in patio pots with multi purpose compost. I give them a feed of Potash once a month. They are in a SUNNY spot on the patio. I didn't think I would get a crop last year as I potted them up in April. I was surprised at how quick they grew and the amount of strawberries we picked for so late in the year. I'm hoping for a bigger crop this year, as i've heard strawberries do MUCH better in their 2nd year :D

I've also managed to peg 5 runners down and they are looking healthy after that harsh winter.
