Its official! I am officially smiling today.

Just been to see the local farmer and we have done a deal to lease a piece of land for a minimum of three years. It is about half an acre. Full sun most of the day. Water on tap. 250 yards from my house. It could not be better.

Now we have to get to work on planning what we are going to grow, getting a fence and gate sorted out. We, Mrs Chopper and I are absolutely chuffed.

    Blimey,

    Nice one Mate.:dbgrtmb:

You need to borrow a pig, it'll clear the ground of everything and fertilize it, the ground that is, don't fertilize the pig :heehee:

Lucky you Chopper. 1/2 an acre is massive, you'll be self-sufficient before long :dbgrtmb:

Might be an obvious thing but get some soil tests done before you start...

Have to say I'm more than a tad jealous! Well done

Congratulations. Sounds like an excellent arrangement.

You might already know this, but in case you don't, make sure you have rabbit proof fences around it all, and deer proof if deer are in the area, otherwise you might have a few setbacks. I'm talking (writing) from experience on this point, I have a plot in the countryside and I've had all sorts decimated. I've since changed tactics and now put very secure mesh fences around my planting areas. So far so good. I don't protect the potatoes though, nothing seems to be interested in them, presumably because the top growth is all poisonous.

Great news Mr & Mrs Chopper :thumb:

Can the farmer plough it for you to give you a flying start? and then maybe a PTO-driven rotavator (mini tractor type) ... might as well ask him for some well rotted manure whilst you are at it :)

Here ya go. This is a picture of my new plot.

The picture was taken from the corner furthest from the gate. As you look at the picture, there is a hedge going from left to right at the furthest end of the field. The end of the hedge marks the end of my plot. The end of the hedge back to where I took the picture is all ours.

We went down to have a proper look today and try and work out some sort of plan. First thing we did was measure up just how much space we have got. The plot measures 190 feet by 54 feet. Few little rises and dips, nothing to worry about. All of it is laid to meadow grass.

Went and paid the farmer three years rent. Met the old boy that lives next door to our new plot. Very friendly chap that even offered to let me have an electrical hook up from his garage so that I can have a brew. How kind is that then?

Found the water supply and it turns out that the guy that owns the supply point is the same guy that also offered to let me have a power supply. I can have water for free! Last time I was this excited I had a new Harley.

Now the work starts. Working on that plan tonight. Thankyou for all your kind comments.

    Regards

    Chopper.

WHHAYY, this is better than PORN :dbgrtmb::dbgrtmb::dbgrtmb:

    Will be round ASAP.

Lot of work to be done there, especially getting the Westport Canal up and running again for the distribution.
