used to have one of these shrubs in South Africa when I lived in Johannesburg ... was planted by the lounge window, and when in bloom, filled the whole house with a powerful sweet scent ... the flowers were profuse and were tri-colour: pink/white/mauve, and bloomed twice a year for long periods ... herewith a pic of one in bloom:

in Johannesburg, winters are harsh (lots of frost), and temp drops below 0 degrees C (sometimes as low as -8 degrees C) .... only difference is that there is no rain during winter

has anyone had any success with these in the UK (planted outdoors)?

Hi Marley ... there should be no probs in a container, then overwinter if temp gets below -5 deg C ...

but plant in a large pot and in semi-shade ... these are normally evergreen if my memory serves me right, and will do superb in a conservatory here in the UK

these are tri-colour... pic only shows the 2 colours, and bloom for a very long time ...

scent is powerfull (stronger than normal jasmine) and they make flowers twice a year (repeat blooming like some roses) ... used to open the lounge windows and the whole house was filled with the scent

no probs for the photo, it was off google

according to the internet, they can be grown outdoors in USDA Zone 9a-11, so will grow in some areas of the UK .... I might try one in a protected area outdoors (I dont have a conservatory)
