Is the use of Nine anti terror officers to make the arrest then holding the poor man for 8 hours really a good use of police resources?

If it had been someone reporting a burglary you could guarantee you'd be lucky if you got a pcso a week later.

    What a bunch of muppets!

The immigration hysteria/panic has a great deal to answer for, along with the man made propaganda monster-Al Quaeda.

Pete, they certainly do exist but the government has used this hysteria to bring to bear a whole host of dangerous 'catch all' laws that are open to very wide interpretation on the part of the Police and judicial system.

Take the elderly heckler arrested two years ago under the terror act at the labor Conference..... If I remember correctly he was actually a Labour party member!!!!!!!!!!!!!

In my opinion the use of nine officers is nothing short of a waste of police resources and an abuse of power..... More akin to something that might take place in Zimbabwe or Russia.

I`m saying that fear is an incredible motivator and manipulative people know exactly how to use it Pete.

    Controversy warning_

if people buy their opinions from certain newspapers then they get the government they deserve.

I won`t be lead by the nose.

See whats happening around you, and draw your own conclusions, as regards immigration.

As far a terrorists go, look whats happening in India, I dont think that has been made up by a newspaper.

But i'm still not sure what your saying.
Call me thick if you like, but I've never been good at riddles.

    Yep, I agree Paul.

But how do you crack down on the bad guys and not on everyone else?

It has to be discretion on the part of the courts, surely thats why we have judges and the DPP.

I feel that the previous powers of arrest were suitable, I have some faith in the judicial system when or if matters are brought to trial but very very little in the actual police service.

To me the terror act is being used as a tool to tackle any sort of 'undesirable' behavior whether law breaking or not.

How to tell the bad guys from the good guys-a tough one, I`m not clever enough to say.

But the anti terrorist laws in place that allowed the above to happen are fascist in principle and fascist in practice.

As was said in at least one newspaper today. A baby is beaten to death with NO help or protection from the police. Yet 20 anti terrorist officers are sent to arrest this man, ( who was only doing his job ) and search his homes and offices. And Brown doesn`t kmow? Yeah, right.

Yes your all right as far as I'm concerned,( thats right as in correct).:hehe:

The baby thing is a separate issue really, more to do with social services.

The police must be doing their own thing then,........ if good old Gordon knew nothing about it.:)

The " baby thing " ISN`T a separate thing, the police had the chance to save this babies life, and didn`t. And if Gordon DIDN`T know, then that makes us a police state.:flag:

That poor child was systematically let down by many people, but first and foremost by the piece of living shi* that doesn`t deserve the title mother.

Gordon Brown can`t possibly be aware of every single arrest or detention under the anti terrorism laws-after all it is so wide a range of people that can be picked up for absolutely any reason with absolutely no evidence, and with no accountability is indeed exactly that-a fascist police state.

So few ever reach the second verse

The nations not so blest as thee,
    Shall in their turns to tyrants fall;
While thou shalt flourish great and free,
The dread and envy of them all.

Oh, I think we have had a "police state" for quite some time now.

Who, when driving, doesn't try to avoid having a copper following them.
Even if your abiding by the law you tend to think that they will find some reason to stop you, breath test you and demand to see your" papers".

We have been under their control for quite some time now.

What ever happened to the bobby that gave you a bollocking and thats as far as it went.
