    If you go to the Olympic Games, having paid a shed load of money for a ticket of course, wearing a Pepsi T-Shirt then you will not be allowed entry because they have to protect the brands that are the sponsors. You 'might' be allowed in wearing Nike trainers, although Lord Coe isn't sure.

    And that, right there, is what is wrong with this country. Someone with more money and privilege than sense being made a Lord, and then being allowed to arrange a get-together for similar minded cronies, whilst dictating to the little people (who are paying for it all) what they can wear!

    If they were turning up in only crotchless panties or peephole bras then fair enough, but a T-shirt that is advertising a brand other than the event sponsor?

      The olympics are a farce, they tried to get us here in Scotland all excited about the football competition that is being held at Hampden, they gave away most of the tickets and have reduced the capacity of the stadium. there are no male Scots in the track and field events and there is only 1 female. team GB, aye right.

        Every time I try to think about the olympics, I get a vision in my head of that kid getting violently attacked by olympics officials.

            It seems a nonsense to me that the Olympic beach volleyball venue is Horse Guards Parade, London - surely it should have been on the beach at Weymouth?

                Britain isn't c*ap at everything. I wonder how many people ever ask why it is that so many people flood here from countries with, what on the face of it seems to us, better weather, cheaper living costs etc. Its because Britain is the best country in the world.

                We are tolerant of others, we look after those in need, everybody gets an education, if you get accused of a crime you get a fair trial. If you get found guilty you don't get stoned to death or beaten. You're unlikely to pick up any really nasty diseases from an insect bite. You get safe drinking water on tap for what works out at about 2p per litre. The shops are never far away and are always well stocked with reasonably priced food. If you get ill, you will get medical treatment without anybody every asking how you intend to pay for it.

                Then there's our industry. Yes we still have some despite what some of the papers would have us believe. The local steel works near me has recently reopened after being bought by a Thai firm. Why would a firm as far away as Thailand ever be interested in restarting an ancient steel works on the north east coast of the UK? Its because they know that the this area has the people with the skills to run a steel works very well and make good steel on time, and that we have the skills to run the port a couple of mile away on the Tees, so that raw materials can get in and steel can get out. We also have a key role in high tech stuff, with a firm down in Surrey making quite a lot of kit that goes into space, or Derby making the best jet engines in the world, or up in Newcastle where much space stuff and defence stuff is built.

                I've just given a small handful of examples of why Britain is great. We should be proud.

                  Hear,hear, Clueless! No, we're not carp at everything. And we need to start celebrating all the things we do well. All the time we disparage, is it any wonder that foreigners come here and do the same? I can't think of any other country where immigrants/visitors (a) move heaven and earth to get in and then (b) think it's ok to slag the place off once they've arrived. And it's partly our own fault. Can you imagine the French running themselves down? High time we grew a bit more of a positive attitude, if you ask me.

                    I think this thread's going off topic (excessive brand policing), and the sort of stuff it should be about is

                    http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/ol...oid-advertising-rival-brands-in-Olympics.html

                    and...

                    'Kate's' parents also seem to be in a potential spot of bother:

                    http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/ol...ons-asked-to-change-Party-Pieces-website.html

                    Even Boris 'Bonkers' Johnson has objected;

                    http://www.ft.com/cms/s/0/df5c6008-d282-11e1-abe7-00144feabdc0.html#axzz21H0Bv2Th

                    And whatever next - will the sale of Gold Medal tomato fruits & seeds only be permitted by official sponsors of the 2012 Olympics (and am I even allowed to say those last words without paying for the privilege?)
