Yew Hedge

Hello chums
See, I have this Yew hedge around 9-10’ tall. It’s growing fast. When would the best time to cut it back/trim it up?

Now is good Freddie ...check there are no birds' nests though.
Now is good because yew will respond fast right now and look good again in a few weeks
Of course, you can cut it as hard as you like and it will respond

Did you know @Freddy that you can donate, or even sell the clippings from yew - it is used as a cancer treatment.

 

Is that true? I'm going to have 2 or 3 bulk bags full of clippings this time next week. I'd happily donate them, saves me getting rid of them.

I lost a young sister to cancer 20 years ago and yew was wanted then to help with treatment.

 

Verdun sorry to hear that ….cancer is an awful experience for a good many people.

 

Wow I genuinely am fascinated by this. I work as a gardener and have a few clients with grand size Yew hedges. I'll look into this further as F**k cancer, let's beat it!

I did look at the CR site, but it seems it might not be practical?

I'm going to contact both companies on Monday and find out more about it. I collect around 2-3 tonnes of Yew clippings alone between July and September so seems a waste to take them to the tip or compost them in my yard when they can be put to better use.
