Just finished cutting down an overgrown Yew and was wondering if the shredded material will have any bad effect if used as a mulch (eventually when it has rotted a lot more obviously.)?
    TIA

I've taken to using conifer needles (although not a Yew) as a winter mulch. My thinking is that a thick layer around the base or covering borderline perennials protects the plants but allows air movement to discourage rot.

I asked as there are lots of Hellebores around the Yew and I did not want to damage them with more needles.
