    Hi guys,
I've watched a bunch of youtube tutorials on training wisteria but they're all for older plants. This one only has one long shoot coming from the very top. I'm not sure if it would be better to train that one straight towards the top, or have it wrapped around each horizontal slat working it's way to the top (like a zig zg). Im not sure how long these shoots will grow? Any advice would be very much appreciated!

You can see the shoot in the pictures attached, ive just draped it across a slat for now:

    Hiya KatLeb :)

I would prune back that leading shoot.....this will initiate more stems to tie in laterally. Spread the stems as wide as you can.

Generous feeding in spring plus a thick mulch will help your (greedy) wisteria to thrive :)

Thats great, thanks for the advice! How far back would you prune the shoot?

Wouldn’t bother with pruning yet as wisterias send up plenty of other shoots. Where’s the wisteria ultimately going? This will depend on how you train it

Thanks Loofah, it'll be trained up to the top of the trellis hopefully covering it. I only have a balcony so it'll be staying fairly small in it's 50L tub lol!
