First Single I bought was "The Boys are Back in town" Thin Lizzie

Not sure about the first album, a bit blurred with pinching stuff off my Brother.

My first one was Foreigner - I Wanna Know What Love Is; still love it to this day. It was bought for me by our lovely neighbour (Hilda), whom I utterly adored (I was 8 years old, and I was going to marry Hilda, a married woman in her forties )

She also bought me Ghostbusters (still a cracking wee tune in my book).

My first album was on cassette - Huey Lewis and The News - - Fore! I was introduced to this by a chap who lived further up our street, who neighboured onto my best friends parents; he was playing it on a shoe-box recorder in his back garden, and we listened to the whole thing (leaning over the fence); bless him, he went out and bought each of us our very own copy a couple of weeks later. I still have the album, albeit on CD now.

And finally, very early on, my auntie from Coventry gave me a Chas 'n' Dave cassette for Christmas - I still have a wee bit of a soft spot for them at times too :oopss:

I have very wide and varied tastes in music, probably because it was such a big part of my young life (telly was only on for a couple of hours in the evenings back then).

The first record I ever bought was......

        This:sofa:

But in my defence, I took it back to woolies, told them I'd bought it for a friend and they already had it, and exchange it for a version of The Eve of the War, one of the tracks from Jeff Wayne's War of the Worlds.

EDIT: It took some finding, but this is the actual version I bought. Its a lot more cheesy than I'd remembered.

            • Heartbreak Hotel - Elvis ( 45 rpm HMV with the dog by the gramaphone)
            • Bad penny Blues by Humphrey Lyttleton. I used to tinkle the ivories to accompany the muted trumpet. I still love it and always whistle along with it - not very ladylike or refined!

I got my first cassette tape single quite late in my life really (at 11 years old), mine was Oasis - Stand By Me back in 1997, however I used to listen (and inherit) my sisters Now That's What I Call Music 28 tape (and that's the old Now 28 from circa 1993, not the new one for those under 20).

The first songs I consciously remember liking where Lisa Loeb - Stay (in 1992), Neneh Cherry - Manchild (1990) and Chicago - Hard to say I'm sorry, which is an old song by was re-realeased circa 1991. Also Richard Marx - Hazard (and Right here waiting for you).. other songs I loved as a young boy.

I had a strange taste in music at 5 years old, but remember it well!

I feel young.. i was using Cassette Tapes!!

I can't remember but probably Cliff Richard. I was into him and Sis into Elvis.

Strange how I now live 20 minutes from Cliff's home and vinyard here and good friends of our live next door to his manager.
