    You dont actually need the potato, once its shooted you can cut off the rooted stems and grow them on. I've done this, but I think we need a much longer summer and a much warmer one to make it...

    Don't use a hoe too close to the plants or you risk root damage and disease. I try to fingertip weed and get the weeds out as soon as I can get hold of them.
