Jane; netting will stop more eggs being coming, but you will have to do something about those caterpillars already munching your veggies. If you don't have many pick them off by hand and squish any eggs you see, or consider spraying if you aren't a greenie.

I sort of did that last year. I cut back the plants in the autumn and kept them in pots over winter until I had space for them. I planted them out early in the year and had a good crop from the earlies and now the second lot are ripening, so assuming we get a late summer, I'm looking forward to...

They seem to get hotter towards the stalk, having tried a couple from a plant I bought at the Chilli Festival. Its deceiving, at first they seem mild then as you nibble more - whamo!

Thanks, will try that!Space is not a problem as I can sink them into the raised beds that my onions and garlic have just vacated. Maybe at the side that is shaded from the afternoon sun by our trees.

Thanks Alice, I should have mentioned that I have raised beds, but nonetheless the Garlic, Onions and Shallots didn't do very well this year.

In the conservatory I have kept a plant for two years. No new fruit in the winter, but the fruit lasts a long time on the plant. It looked pretty xmassy in December. New flowers in spring, not as much as year 1 but plenty for a family.

It's ok Seedstotal you win some you loose some and in the end I lost very few onions indeed the ones that didn't do too well were one raised bed of red onions, thankfully I had a few rows in the big onion bed so I didn't miss out on the reds.:wink:Hel.xxx.

Ive had the same problem this year we live in a very exposed site and even with firm support they ve suffered some damage.

Ive grown some asparagus plants from seeds this year in the greenhouse,which is quite shaded and they are doing very well. Ive potted them on twice and they are now in 4" and 5" pots. What do I do now ? can I leave them in the green house untill I plant them out in May? Do I need to pot them on...

Hope you washed them first , could be the next door,s cat. Only joking , not sure never come across this problem. Can only think it is somthing that has got onto the toms ie chemical of some sort.

as long as the the colouration does not rot, gets soft of any sorts, then for ur sqash to go orange is absolutely normal Let it grow till end of this month to have a nice ripe fruit!!

I sometimes had the same problem.I think its similar to blossom end rot in tomatoes.The other cause could possibly be that the plant is trying to support too many fruit. Thinning the fruits to just three to a plant might help.
